West Seattle Monster Dash 2020

2021-10-09

The past 18 months have been supremely weird, right? Like, unsettlingly weird. Our ability to adapt to … everything that’s been put in front of us is incredible. One of the most incredible parts is seeing our local preschools foster community distantly. Our most important fundraiser is Monster Dash, which raises money for our program-wide scholarship fund for families.

As we approach the 2021 Dash, let’s take a look back at least year’s. I was lucky enough to be able to capture the day-of kit handoff for those who had registered. This let me really see firsthand how our Monster Dash team reinvented basically everything to be able to still put on this fundraiser.

I also did a series of fall family mini sessions for those who had registered as a way to say thank you for being a part of our community and supporting the incredible resource that is our Co-op preschools.

Pickup Day

Normally, we would have a big 5K at Lincoln Park and a little kid’s dash where the kids all chase a big ol’ monster. Naturally, that wasn’t exactly safe in the fall of 2020, so the team changed to a drive-up pick-up option for kits and goodies. Even though families only stopped by for a few minutes to grab their things, the team still made sure things were organized and appropriately spooky.

Heading into the weirdest winter any of us have ever experienced, it was such a joy to see everyone and have those few moments together. Throughout the pandemic, Co-op has been all about building and maintaining community. Seeing everyone come through, it was so apparent how much everyone appreciates it!

Fall Photo Giveaway Sessions

As part of my participation in Monster Dash last year, we raffled off three photo sessions to registrants. I love connecting with other Co-op families and these were a delight to do! To be extra safe, we did these as front porch sessions (bonus: decoration photos!).

This family chose to do their photos costumed which I loved. We caught the best sunset light, too!

Can we talk about the fantastic decorations this family had? I want to channel their spooky season spirit. And their general spirit, they were so fun and such good sports.

This session had costume changes and my personal favourite, a skeleton friend.

Happy Monster Dash 2021 and Happy Halloween, everyone!
